Hellenic Immortal Review

Hellenic Immortal by Gene Doucette

Hellenic Immortal by Gene Doucette

Note: Be sure to check out GeekDad.com on 5/1 for “Another Interview by an Immortal.” [I’ll update with a link at that time.]

Last April, I hosted an excerpt to Gene Doucette’s Immortal to help out his blog tour. As I indicated, it is one of my favorites from recent memory. Naturally, when I heard that Doucette was coming out with its sequel, I jumped all over it. I wasn’t sure if Hellenic Immortal would be better than the original, but I knew it would have to really blow me away for that to happen. Well, let’s just say it happened.

Once again, Doucette gives the reader a fantastic voice to “listen” to in Adam. Oh, but I might mention that Adam isn’t always referred to as Adam. I mean, let’s face it … Wouldn’t you be bored if you had to retain the same name for 60,000 years? Plus, there’s the whole blending into society thing. How far would Adam get if he were to still introduce himself with a grunt or some other guttural sound?

Sorry, I got off track for a moment. What was I saying?

Ah yes …

Forging Truth Blog Stops

Since its release, I haven’t really done too much PR work for Forging Truth. So, over the next month or so, I’m conducting a blog tour through the kindness of some of my fellow authors and bloggers. I’ll be doing several giveaways during this time, too. Of course, I still have 40 days or so left with my Kickstarter project, if anyone’s interested in donating there.

Here are the dates that I have so far. There are about 10 more that haven’t been finalized. That still leaves several, so if you are interested in hosting a stop that’s not filled in, I’d more than welcome it. I’m open to an excerpt, and interview, a giveaway, or a book review. I can also do a guest post if you give me an idea of what you’re looking for.

Kickstarter Update #5: The Rewards, Part 2

Rewarding Truth: Companion Book (paperback) with Short Stories and DVD-Style Extras for the Truth Saga, Signed Paperback of Corrupting Truth, Kindle (or other digital) copy of Corrupting Truth, Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

What does a $60 donation get you? Well, on top of the rewards and “thank you’s” from the previous rewards, you now get a companion book that will give in-depth character bios, some commentary on various parts of The Truth Saga, some of Caduceus’ recipes, the lyrics to Sleepy Jake, and a smattering of short stories. Note: This will be available only to KICKSTARTER backers (and a handful of my closest friends and family) until June 30, 2013!!

Dedicating Truth: A short story dedicated to you in the Companion Book for the Truth Saga, Companion Book with Short Stories and DVD-Style Extras for the Truth Saga, Signed Paperback of Corrupting Truth, Kindle (or other digital) copy of Corrupting Truth, Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

For $75, you can now have a 5,000-word to 10,000-word story dedicated to you in the companion collection. Pretty snazzy, right? But for handing me $75 of your hard-earned cash, you definitely deserve it.

Funding Truth: Special Hardback, Limited Kickstarter Editions of Forging Truth, Corrupting Truth, and the Companion Book of Short Stories and DVD-Style Extras for the Truth Saga, plus Signed Paperback of Corrupting Truth, Kindle (or other digital) copy of Corrupting Truth, Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

$125 is quite a jump from $75, but hardbacks are expensive when purchased as print-on-demand. Unfortunately, at the moment I cannot do a bulk order. Hopefully, I’ll have some interest here. I know, there’s something to be said about holding a heavy volume in your hands. The sound of both the books spine cracking, as well as your own, as you lift it into your lap.

Creating Truth: Help me create a character for the series, along with his/her name and power set (within guidelines, of course). You will be credited for the assist. Oh, plus, you’ll get all the rewards from Reward #7.

The final reward is $150. It’s a pretty popular reward on here, as far as I’ve seen. It’s the opportunity to create and name a character in The Truth Saga. There will be the potential for Kade to cross paths with various metahumans down the road. Why not help me to come up with their core power sets? Have a clever name bouncing around for a hero/villain and no outlet for it? Let’s work something out. I’ll be sure to include a special note about the assist in the front matter of the book for you to show off to all your buddies.

And that is that for the rewards. If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to email me or post in the comments here.

Thanks!

Raymond

Kickstarter Update #4: The Rewards, Part 1

Aiding Truth: Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus a personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

So, what does your $5 donation get you? I will gift you a Kindle or Smashwords copy of Forging Truth to read on the go. This is pretty much a breakeven donation/reward. This way, though, you get a personalized “thank you” from me through the really nifty Kindlegraph service. This can be kept in a file on your Kindle or on your computer. Not enough thanks? I’ll also single you out for a pat on the back on Nothing To See Here my author blog. Also, since I’m self-publishing again, I can have hundreds of pages in the acknowledgements section of Corrupting Truth set aside for yet another volley of thanksgiving. Shoot, I want you guys to know I appreciate you after all.

Helping Truth: Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth. (NOTE: On this and any other shipped item, please, add $10 for International Shipping.)

For $20 I’ll tack on a signed paperback of book one. This is another breakeven deals. Pretty much you’re buying the product here but getting the extras along with it. As for the part about international shipping, I took a quick look around Kickstarter to see just how that was being handled, and $10 is what I came across. I guess that’s cool, as I received my first international patron today.

Supporting Truth: Kindle (or other digital) copy of Corrupting Truth, Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

A $25 donation will land you one of the first digital copies of Corrupting Truth. That’s what this thing is all about to me. Gaining momentum through those interested enough to not only read the first book in a new series, but to be willing to chance its sequels. This is also a breakeven reward.

Backing Truth: Signed Paperback of Corrupting Truth, Kindle (or other digital) copy of Corrupting Truth, Signed Paperback of Forging Truth, Kindle (or other digital) Copy of Forging Truth, plus the personalized, signed Kindlegraph, as well as a thank you shout out on my blog, and a listing in the acknowledgements of Corrupting Truth

$40 is a chunk of change, right? Have no fear, you’re getting what you pay for. Now we’re talking a digital copy of both books, a paperback of both books, and my undying gratitude. That gratitude is gratis just for checking out my project, but I still like to throw that out there.

Okay, that’s all for tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll try to pop in The Rewards, Part 2. Then, I’ll be out of state till Friday and probably won’t be able to do any updates till then. Before I go, though, I wanted to thank Keith Hall. He opted for the digital copy of Forging Truth. Thanks, Keith!

Later,

Raymond

Kickstarter Update #3: When Angels Meet Metahumans

I’ve explained The Truth Saga at different times as “When Angels Meet Metahumans.” Stylistically, the first book, Forging Truth, does a good job of introducing that feel. But, that book was primarily about Kade Truth and what’s going on with him. Corrupting Truth goes quite a bit deeper into the metahuman side of things.

There is an underground world of metas operating, well, underground. The Messiah Complex is a loose collection of super-powered individuals, in search of the next messiah. If they cannot locate him amongst their “recruits,” then they are determined to craft their own.

How does Kade factor in with this group? Willingly, at first, but then as things start to heat up, well … Curiosity soon turns to horror; and Kade is put to the ultimate test.

Three Years Ago, Today

Corrupting Truth Writing Goal

Man, has it really been that long? I guess so. It was three years ago, today, that I finished the first draft of Forging Truth. That is one of the most euphoric days of my life. In fact, I thought it would really be the start of something big. I knew I had finally arrived. I was a writer, something I had worked toward and dreamed about since high school.

But then, something happened: Nothing happened.
